The German Federal Cartel Office (Bundeskartellamt) suspects Facebook of market abuse in the handling of user data. Pilot proceedings against the social network have been initiated in 2016 and the Federal Cartel Office published its statement of objections at the end of 2017. The proceedings are considered to be the most important application of antitrust law for the digital world under the 9th amendment of the Act against Restraints of Competition. Das Bundeskartellamt wirft Facebook Marktmissbrauch im Umgang mit Nutzerdaten vor – es hat im Frühjahr 2016 ein Pilotverfahren gegen das soziale Netzwerk eingeleitet und Ende 2017 in einem Anhörungsschreiben seine vorläufige Bewertung des Sachverhalts mitgeteilt. Das Verfahren gilt als der bislang wichtigste Anwendungsfall des Kartellrechts für die digitale Welt nach der 9. Novelle des Gesetzes gegen Wettbewerbsbeschränkungen.
