New PPA markets in Spain
Year 2017 saw the emergence of a new market for Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) in Spain, primarily due to renewable power generation projects needing to structure their long-term debt since the disappearance of the subsidised remunerative system that they previously enjoyed. The market has also been further boosted by the Spanish government approving a series of power auctions (more than 8,000 MW have been awarded) to allocate what is known as "specific remuneration" to new renewable energy generation plants.
