In the second of our new series of webinars on class actions in England and Wales we looked at data protection and privacy issues. We expect to see more class actions in this area following the implementation of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in May this year, the ever-increasing proliferation of data breaches, and the recent Court of Appeal decision in the UK's first successful data breach class action (Wm Morrisons Supermarkets Plc v Various Claimants [2018] EWCA Civ 2339).
In this webinar we explained why this area is ripe for class actions, what we have seen so far, and the impact that this could have on organisations.
