Leading international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills today announced the promotion of Martin Le Touzé to the global partnership. Martin, who has been Of Counsel in the Disputes team based in Paris since 2017, specialises in legal and regulatory disputes for financial institutions.
Martin has extensive experience in the banking, asset management, insurance, and payments sectors. He regularly advises leading financial institutions as well as issuers and their directors, in connection with proceedings brought against them before the courts or in disciplinary proceedings before the French Financial Markets Authority (AMF) and the French Prudential Supervisory Authority (ACPR).
Martin has developed strong expertise in assisting clients with complex regulatory issues litigation proceedings for all types of financial institutions, whether banks, asset management companies, insurance providers or payment companies.
His experience includes cases related to Anti-Money Laundering/Combatting the Financing of Terrorism ("AML-CFT"), market abuse, derivatives litigation, sanctions and embargoes, as well as the trading of life insurance contracts and structured products. More generally, Martin assists financial institutions and their directors with all issues relating to professional obligations and good practice.
Member of the Paris Bar since 2008, Martin, 38, holds a Master 2 degree in banking and financial law from the University of Paris II (Panthéon-Assas), as well as a Master of Science in Management from the EM Lyon, European Business School.

The Disputes team in Paris now comprises more than 40 lawyers (including 9 Partners, 5 Of Counsel, and some 25 associates) across various disciplines, including commercial litigation, financial and regulatory disputes, white-collar crime, international arbitration, and trademark and patent litigation. The team is one of the market-leaders in Paris, with a highly developed knowledge of the various sectors in which they operate.
This promotion is effective from 1 May 2020, part of a class of 26 promotions to Partner at the firm worldwide. This is the firm’s largest promotion round since its merger in 2012. The gender balance of the new partners is 50:50.
