Herbert Smith Freehills Partner Kate Meakin has been selected to feature in Global Investigations Review (GIR)'s  Women in Investigations rankings. The list is designed to highlight the top 100 remarkable women in the field of white-collar law and investigations.

Kate has worked with the firm for 17 years, becoming a Partner in May 2020. She has also spent time on secondment to the Serious Fraud Office, as well as in-house at BP in their investigations team and to the firm's Hong Kong office.

She has carved out a hugely successful career and has worked on some landmark matters, including: representing Roger Jenkins, a former executive of Barclays Bank who was acquitted in February 2020, following a second criminal trial into allegations in connection with the raising of capital from Qatari Investors in 2008; acting for individuals in respect of the SFO’s investigations into affairs at Rolls Royce plc and Tesco, and for Société Générale on a multi-billion dollar claim brought by the Libyan Investment Authority alleging bribery and intimidation, where criminal investigation alongside the civil proceedings led to deferred prosecution agreements in the US and France.

Kate's advisory work includes assistance with anti-bribery and investigations policies and procedures, as well as the Criminal Finances Act offences of failure to prevent the facilitation of tax evasion.  She has delivered training for clients in Europe, the US, Asia and Africa.  She regularly writes and speaks on developments in the corporate crime space.

Commenting on the award, Kate said: "I am delighted to be recognised by GIR, and honoured to be listed in the company of such great women".
