Herbert Smith Freehills has advised Blueleaf Energy, a portfolio company of Macquarie’s Green Investment Group, on its partnership with SunAsia to develop 1.25GW of solar projects in the Philippines.
Under the terms of this new partnership, Blueleaf Energy will work with SunAsia to co-develop a portfolio of projects in Luzon, the Philippines.
"We are delighted to have assisted BlueLeaf Energy with this latest important transaction," said partner Glynn Cooper, who leads the firm's energy and infrastructure team in Southeast Asia. "This is a major investment in the Philippines renewables market, and is typical of the rapid investment in green energy we are seeing across Asia this year."
"Every one of our Asia markets is seeing considerable commercial and government investment in renewable energy and infrastructure," said energy senior associate Will Stroll who led on the transaction alongside Glynn. "The combination of political will and commercial commitment is creating a step-change in Asian renewables capacity in a very short period of time."
Glynn and Will were supported by associate Smriti Bahety. Project finance partner Elizabeth Charlesworth led on the financing aspects of the transaction, supported by associate Nick Gerovasilis.
