Leading international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills has announced the promotion of six new partners in Asia, as part of a 27-partner global promotion round.
The new partners are based in Hong Kong, Jakarta, Singapore and Tokyo, with all promotions effective 1 May 2024.
This year's promotions also include two new partners at the firm's longstanding Indonesian associate firm Hiswara, Bunjamin & Tandjung in Jakarta.

Christopher is a disputes and financial regulatory lawyer. He advises clients on internal investigations, regulatory inquiries, crisis management and civil and criminal enforcement actions before authorities in the US, Europe, Japan and Asia. Christopher is a New York-registered lawyer and is licensed to advise in Japan as a Registered Foreign Lawyer (Gaikokuho Jimu Bengoshi). He is fluent in English and Japanese and holds a juris doctor degree from Boston College Law School and a doctorate in Japanese literature from Yale University, where his dissertation was on the novels of Natsume Soseki.
Lucy is a corporate lawyer specialising in mergers and acquisitions and private capital transactions. She advises private capital and corporate clients on complex cross-border acquisitions, sell-side processes, investments and joint ventures particularly transactions in the financial services and real-assets sectors. Lucy graduated with a bachelor's degree in law and French from the University of Sheffield and is qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales.
Dandy is a corporate lawyer specialising in capital markets, public M&A and financial services regulatory. He advises international and Indonesian clients on equity and debt capital markets transactions (including Rule 144A and Regulation S offerings), public mergers and acquisitions under Indonesia's complex regulatory regime, financial services regulatory issues, and public company advisory. Dandy graduated with a bachelor's degree in law and economics from the University of Indonesia, and is fluent in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
An international arbitration lawyer, Murphy advises Chinese and international clients on cross-border disputes, particularly those related to construction, infrastructure, energy and share purchase and shareholder disputes. He also advises on project execution, dispute avoidance, contract drafting and the negotiation of major global infrastructure projects. Murphy graduated with a bachelor's degree in law and commerce from the University of New South Wales and a master's degree in business law from the University of Sydney. He is qualified in England & Wales and Australia (New South Wales), and is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
Tedy is a disputes lawyer and an Indonesian law-qualified litigator. He specialises in criminal law, dispute resolution, corporate crime and investigations and contentious employment issues. He advises and acts for international financial institutions and multinational corporations on high-profile investigations across industry sectors. Tedy graduated with a bachelor's degree in law from Universitas Padjadjaran, and is fluent in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
Michelle is a corporate lawyer on secondment to associate firm Hiswara Bunjamin & Tandjung in Jakarta. Her practice spans both transactional and advisory work in the financial services and technology sectors. She advises clients in the digital economy on investment structuring, licensing, and roll-out of new business models, and represents clients in M&A, fundraising, joint ventures, M&A and other corporate transactions. Bilingual in English and Bahasa Indonesia, Michelle holds a bachelor's degree in law from the National University of Singapore and a master's degree in law and finance from the University of Oxford.
