The ICC International Court of Arbitration has appointed Debby Sulaiman, a partner of associate firm Hiswara Bunjamin & Tandjung, as a Court Member for Indonesia and Herbert Smith Freehills' consultant May Tai as a Vice President of the Court.
Both are appointed to three-year terms from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2027.
Founded in 1923, the International Court of Arbitration is the world’s leading arbitral institution.
"We're delighted that two of our outstanding Asia arbitration practitioners have been appointed to the Court," said partner Simon Chapman KC, Global Co-Head of the firm's International Arbitration practice.
"May and Debby combine international expertise with a deep understanding of the cultures and economies of the Asia region, and have much to contribute to the ongoing reputation and development of the Court."
These appointments add to Herbert Smith Freehills and its associate firms' existing memberships of the ICC Court and ICC Disputes Resolution Services. Simon Chapman KC is also a Court Member, while Shanghai partner Helen Tang is a Vice Chair of the ICC Arbitration and ADR Commission.
On 28 June 2024, May Tai was also appointed to the Chair's List of Conciliators at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), an organisation of the World Bank. Read more here.
