One of the largest Africa investment gatherings took place on the 8th to 10th May 2019 in London, Westminster Plaza. The annual investment event is one of the largest Africa investment gatherings outside of Africa with a special focus on Infrastructure, Mining and Energy investment opportunities in the region. This year the conference brought together over 1000 delegates consisting of investors, dealmakers and business leaders from all over the globe with business interest in Africa.
Africa as an emerging market presents an opportunity to institutional investors with investable capital and these opportunities were discussed in great detail in highly focused investment sessions and break away meetings over the three day conference. Both public and private partnership investment opportunities were promoted in order to mobilise inward investment into the region. The delegates found the conference to be insightful and important given the declining state of international trade across the globe.
Herbert Smith Freehills delegates attended the investment conference and were presented with excellent networking opportunities with delegates from diverse backgrounds. Investors, local law firms and business leaders shared insight into specific African jurisdictions, for example, South Africa, Mauritius, Nigeria, Uganda and Senegal to name a few. Insight gained included overview of existing opportunities, risks/challenges to consider when doing business in the region, as well as successful business case studies in recent years.
