Herbert Smith Freehills LLP is pleased to announce that the firm’s Africa co-Chair Stéphane Brabant has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Chambers and Partners in recognition of his contribution to the legal profession and to the practice of law across the African continent. The award was announced at the Chambers Africa Awards 2021 webinar which took place on 12 January 2021.

Stéphane joined the Paris office in 1998. He spent 7 years working in Gabon for PwC Legal & Tax before joining HSF and has over 30 years of experience advising almost exclusively on matters in Africa, spanning investor/State relations, crisis prevention and management, dispute resolution, business and human rights and ESG, with a particular focus on the energy and natural resources sectors.

Stéphane has been instrumental in helping the firm to build and raise the profile of its Africa Practice Group. We have now worked in all of Africa’s 54 countries and advised the firm’s clients on over 1000 matters on the continent in FY20 alone. We are ranked by Chambers Global as a Tier 1 law firm in five Africa-wide practice areas and have more partners listed for Africa-wide Projects & Energy than any other law firm. Stéphane is the only lawyer singled out by Chambers Global in its highest "Senior Statesperson" ranking for Africa-wide Projects & Energy work.

Congratulations Stéphane on this well-deserved award !
