The World Council of the Internal Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has reappointed Herbert Smith Freehills' Vanina Sucharitkul to the International Court of Arbitration for a three-year term, effective 1 July 2015.
Based in Bangkok, senior associate Vanina has been Thailand's member to the ICC International Court of Arbitration since 2012, and is also the youngest member appointed to the Court.
"I am honoured to have the opportunity to continue my work at the Court, and look forward to working with distinguished arbitration experts from around the globe," said Vanina.
Founded in 1923 and based in Paris, the ICC International Court of Arbitration is one of the world's most experienced arbitration institutions, receiving around 800 new cases every year. The Court's primary role is to administer ICC arbitrations by fixing the place of arbitration, confirming the appointment of arbitrators, deciding on challenges of arbitrators, setting the costs of arbitration, overseeing emergency arbitrator proceedings, and scrutinizing and approving awards.
"We're delighted with Vanina's reappointment – it's a tribute to the profile she has achieved in the arbitration community and a fantastic opportunity for her to further enhance her career as an arbitration specialist," said Peter Godwin, who leads Herbert Smith Freehills' disputes practice in Asia.
"The ICC Court is of great importance to international business, and is a leading arbitration institution. Vanina's appointment is also a reflection of the strength and standing of Herbert Smith Freehills' international arbitration practice across Asia and globally."
Vanina joined Herbert Smith Freehills in 2007. A graduate of University of California, Berkeley, and University of California, Hastings College of the Law, she is currently a senior associate in the firm's Bangkok office. She has also spent time working in the firm's Paris office. Since joining the firm, she has worked on complex arbitrations in Asia and Europe. Her most recent ICC case was a Geneva-seated arbitration involving a procurement contract with the Thai Government.
