Herbert Smith Freehills is proud to be a global platinum sponsor of the Global Pound Conference (GPC) Series 2016-17. This ambitious worldwide conference series will engage all key stakeholders in a conversation about dispute resolution and how it should be used in commercial and civil conflicts in the 21st Century.
Singapore will host the first of a 36-city conference series on the 17-18 March 2016, that will bring together users of disputes resolution services, as well as advisors, providers and other stakeholders. Together, we will discuss how we can improve processes to resolve commercial and civil disputes (whether this be through litigation, arbitration, or alternative dispute resolution processes). Further details of the programme are found below, as well as information on how to register.
Recent research suggests that there is a significant gap between what those with commercial and civil disputes expect and need from the system, and the systems and services currently provided by their lawyers, judges, arbitrators, mediators, educators and policy makers. GPC is designed to test the scale of this gap, and suggest practical ways to resolve it. The event will feature a universal (anonymous) voting system to ensure that every view is captured, producing measurable and actionable data at the end of the conference series.
Singapore's programme is a testament to the high level of global interest shown in the GPC Series. As well as the involvement of Herbert Smith Freehills' specialists in the field, Alastair Henderson and Alex Oddy, Judicial Commissioner See Kee Oon, Presiding Judge of the Singapore State Courts, will open the conference, and a keynote address will be provided by the Honourable Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon of the Supreme Court of Singapore. Other speakers and panellists include senior executives from major multi-national corporations and many high profile figures from the Singapore arbitration and dispute resolution community. Further details of the programme can be found here.
The GPC promises to have important implications for the future of dispute resolution both in Singapore and globally. The voice of dispute resolution users like yourself is of paramount importance to us and is vital to the success of the event.
