Herbert Smith Freehills has promoted three new Of Counsel from within the global arbitration practice with effect from 1st May. With promotions in Singapore, Johannesburg and Frankfurt the new Of Counsel are:
Francis Greenaway: Francis specialises in international arbitration and commercial litigation. He has experience advising on a broad range of complex international disputes in Asia and the UK. He has significant experience advising clients in the energy, TMT and private equity sectors and of acting in post-M&A disputes. Francis has represented clients in arbitrations under the ICC, LCIA, SIAC, HKIAC and UNCITRAL rules. He has also appeared in the courts of England & Wales and has experience of other forms of alternative dispute resolution including expert determinations and mediations. Francis trained and qualified as an associate in London before relocating to Asia to work from the firm’s Singapore office.
Fiorella Noriega Del Valle: Fiorella's practice focuses on commercial dispute resolution, including international arbitration, and corporate crime and investigations, working on a wide range of complex investigations and commercial disputes for both local and international clients. Her experience includes dispute domestic arbitration and litigation in South Africa, international arbitrations under the auspices of the ICC, LCIA, AFSA, HKIAC, as well as international ad hoc arbitrations. Fiorella is fluent in English and Spanish and holds an Advanced Certificate in International Arbitration from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), she is a co-chair of the Young AFSA Committee and is involved in the establishment of the South African chapter of the Women's White Collar Defence Association.
Bajar Scharaw: Bajar is an international arbitration, investment protection and public international law specialist based in HSF's office in Frankfurt am Main. Bajar is a disputes lawyer specialising in international arbitration and public international law, including in relation to investment treaty arbitration, State immunity and Business and Human Rights. He has extensive experience representing and advising corporate clients and States in investment arbitrations under bi- and multilateral investment treaties and contracts between investors and governments or State-owned entities. He advises on issues of international economic law, including international investment law, its relations to international environmental law, and Business and Human Rights. Bajar also represents clients in international commercial arbitrations. His recent work includes a wide range of complex cross-border disputes, including arbitral proceedings under the ICSID Convention and the ICC, LCIA, SCC, HKIAC, Swiss and CIETAC Rules. Bajar is also an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Mannheim in Germany, where he teaches international investment law and arbitration, and he has been appointed by the Mongolian Chamber of Commerce and Industry as an arbitrator to the panel of arbitrators at the Mongolian International Arbitration Centre (MIAC). Bajar represents Mongolia in the case of WM Mining Company, LLC v. Mongolia, ICSID Case No. ARB/21/8.
