Following the Conservative Party's decisive victory in December 2019's General Election, it now seems all but inevitable that the UK will leave the EU on 31 January 2020 on the basis of the revised Brexit deal agreed between the UK and the EU in October 2019. However, this only marks the beginning of the process of defining a new relationship between the UK and the EU.

Serious negotiations will only start thereafter. This leaves just 11 months of status quo transition in which to negotiate and ratify a new agreement according to the UK Government's self-imposed deadline of 31 December 2020.

In today's webinar, Paul Butcher (Brexit Director, Herbert Smith Freehills LLP) was joined by James McBride (Partner, Hanbury Strategy) and Eric White (Consultant, Herbert Smith Freehills LLP) to discuss, in turn from a political and then from a legal perspective, the constraints and opportunities at play in order to assess the most realistic outcomes from these vital negotiations.
