The opening months of 2023 have seen competition authorities across EMEA continue the trend of cracking down on cartel conduct, with dawn raids carried out by competition authorities across Europe.
Authorities are increasingly seeking to coordinate enforcement action with their peers in other jurisdictions: for example, the European Commission recently announced that it has carried out dawn raids in consultation with authorities in the UK, Switzerland and the USA; similarly, the head of Germany's Bundeskartellamt has called for rules to be introduced to make it easier for EU and UK authorities to coordinate cartel enforcement action.
Our first bulletin of 2023 includes updates from across our network of expert practitioners located in the EMEA region, with contributions from our offices in Germany, Italy, South Africa, Spain and the United Kingdom. Our Brussels team also provides an update on the key points arising from recent changes to the EU's leniency regime.
