Maryam Oghanna, Associate in the firm’s Disputes practice, has won the Young Practitioner of the Year Award at the 15th annual STEP Private Client Awards 2020.
The STEP Private Client Awards are seen as the hallmark of quality within the private client industry, and have been described as “…the Oscars of our industry and the one all of us wish to win”.
Open globally to both STEP members and non-members, these prestigious awards recognise and celebrate excellence among private client solicitors, lawyers, accountants, barristers, bankers, trust managers and financial advisors.
All entries undergo a rigorous judging process and judges are supported by an independent panel of experts comprising of internationally renowned practitioners in the private client arena.
Maryam was announced as the winner at a virtual awards ceremony on 9 December, and was praised for her dedication to supporting access to justice and frequently representing deserving clients on a pro-bono basis. Maryam specialises in private wealth, trusts and charity matters; her work includes cross-border litigation as well as non-contentious advisory matters.
Richard Norridge, Head of Private Wealth and Charities at Herbert Smith Freehills, commented on the award: "This award is testament to Maryam's great legal abilities as well as a tremendous amount of hard work. It is thoroughly deserved recognition for all the fantastic work Maryam does."
Herbert Smith Freehills were also nominated in the category of Philanthropy Team of the Year.
