Reports that the Planning Bill has been dropped, and that planning reforms first proposed by June 2020’s Planning White Paper will instead be progressed through the "levelling up" agenda, seem to be on the button. From a planning perspective, closer attention must now be paid to what the Levelling Up White Paper has to say. How many of the reforms to the planning system identified in the Planning White Paper can we expect to be taken forward?

This is the subject of our recent article for Property Law Journal. Hopefully we will know more following next month's Queen's Speech on 10 May 2022 about what we can expect to see in the anticipated Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill and what might come through in secondary legislation. Clarity, and certainty, would be welcome.
