At Budget 2020, the Government announced that it would review the Enterprise Management Incentives (EMI) scheme to ensure it provides support for high-growth companies to recruit and retain the best talent so they can scale up effectively, and examine whether more companies should be able to access the scheme.
The Government has now published its call for evidence requesting views and evidence on whether and how the EMI scheme should be expanded.
In particular, the government is focused on the following questions:
- is the current EMI scheme fulfilling its policy objectives of helping Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) recruit and retain employees?
- are companies which have become ineligible for EMI e.g. due to company growth beyond the current qualification limits, experiencing difficulties in recruiting and retaining employees?
- should the government should expand the EMI scheme to support high growth companies and if so, how?
- could other forms of remunerations could provide similar benefits for retention and recruitment as EMI for high-growth companies
Responses are requested by 26 May 2021.
