Alfonso is an IP litigator and IP specialist, with experience in transactional operations. He's part of the Intellectual Property practice in the Milan office.

Alfonso is mainly focused on domestic and cross-borders litigation related to a wide range of IPRs. In particular, he's specialized in dealing with patents, SEP, trade secrets, software, copyright protection and unfair competition.

He also assists clients in proceedings regarding unfair commercial practices before the Italian Competition Authority.

He has worked with clients in several industries, ranging from pharmaceutical and life sciences, design, fashion, telecommunications, consumer products, media and advertising, helping the firm's clients in protecting and commercialising their innovations across sectors.

Background

Alfonso graduated in Law cum laude from the University of Bari and completed an LL.M. in Law of Internet Technology at Bocconi University.

Prior to joining Herbert Smith Freehills, Alfonso gained valuable experience working at a prestigious international law firm.

  • assisting an international pharmaceutical company in one of the first cases in Europe regarding the interpretation of the SPC  waiver Regulation
  • assisting a leading manufacturer of porcelain products for residential and industrial architecture, in a wide range of contentious issues regarding patents, trade secrets protection as well as unfair competition
  • advising a leading company in the apparel industry on several cases, from trademark infringement to advertising and labelling requirements
  • negotiating and drafting multiple technology transfer agreements outside of the European Union
  • advising on cases regarding the ownership of university inventions
  • advising consumer goods distributors and food retailer chains on unfair commercial practices and assisting the same in the proceedings brought by the Italian Competition Authority
