Brenda is a Senior Manager in the Digital Legal Delivery EPI team, working closely with the HSF London Employment team.

Brenda trained and worked in London before moving to Belfast to set up the Digital Legal Delivery Employment practice. She has acted for many businesses across a wide range of industries and has used the knowledge gained across these commercial industries to develop an alternative Employment practice for Herbert Smith Freehills that focuses on efficiencies and costs savings for clients. 

Brenda has a wealth of experience advising employer clients on both non-contentious and contentious matters. Her non-contentious experience includes drafting employment contracts, service agreements and settlement agreements, handbooks and polices, advising on redundancies, restructures, performance, sickness absence, disciplinary and grievance processes.  She also assists with employment related matters in corporate transactions.

Brenda is an experienced Employment Tribunal litigator and has dealt with claims including unfair dismissal, redundancies/restructures, discrimination and TUPE.

Background

Brenda qualified as an employment lawyer in 2010 and worked in various London law firms, being made Partner in 2018.  She joined Herbert Smith Freehills in 2020 to set up and lead the Digital Legal Delivery Employment practice in Belfast.

Selected matters

  • in collaboration with the London Employment and eDiscovery teams, project managing and co-ordinating a large and complex data subject access request for a large financial institution which covered 20 years of employment history in various international jurisdictions
  • leading on an investigation for a major UK insurer by undertaking a large volume document review exercise for evidence into potential team moves of various members of staff
  • assisting a mining company on current whistle-blower legal requirements in key jurisdictions and international best practice for multinational corporates in managing whistle-blower matters
  • drafting and advising on data protection related policies and agreements for global chemical recycling company
