Carlos is an associate in the international arbitration practice group.

Carlos' practice focuses on international arbitration, public international law, and business and human rights.  He has advised and represented clients in several litigation and arbitration proceedings, including arbitrations conducted under the ICC, ICSID, and ICDR-AAA rules.  Carlos also has experience advising clients on doing business in Latin America, investment protection, pre-arbitration disputes, and ESG-related issues.

Prior to joining the firm, Carlos worked for several years as an Associate in the Chilean law firm Bofill Escobar Silva.

Carlos is qualified to practice law in Chile (2014) and in New York (2023). Carlos is native in Spanish and fluent English.

 

Background

Carlos graduated top 3% of his class from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He obtained an LL.M from NYU Law School with an specialization in International Business Regulation, Litigation, and Arbitration in 2022. Carlos was a Starr Foundation Global Law School Scholar at NYU Law School and was awarded the Dean´s Graduate Award, a merit-based scholarship.

  • an international oil company in an AAA / ICDR commercial arbitration (New York seat) in a claim brought by its joint venture partner relating to alleged breaches of indemnity obligations
  • collaborating with an international NGO in advising a family in connection to potential claims against State under the Inter-American Convention of Human Rights, for alleged human rights violations
  • an international mining company in connection to recent ESG developments and trends for the extractive industries, and their application in its operations in a South American country
  • an international investor in an ICSID arbitration against the State of Chile, under the Chile-Colombia FTA*
