Niclas Landmann is an associate in our dispute resolution practice based in Frankfurt.

Niclas focuses his practice on international dispute resolution matters, with a particular emphasis on commercial arbitration, investment arbitration and public international law. He has been involved in commercial and Investor-State arbitrations under different rules including ICSID, ICC and DIS.

Niclas Landmann specialised in particular on commercial disputes between companies and investor-state arbitrations. He obtained his LL.M. in Investment Treaty Arbitration in these areas and wrote his PhD thesis on the protection of investors' legitimate expectations in the renewable energy sector under the Energy Charter Treaty.

Background

Niclas studied law at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. He holds an LL.M. in international Investment Treaty Arbitration from the University of Uppsala (Sweden) and a PhD in this field from the University of Cologne.

He is also a member of DIS-40. As a native German speaker, Niclas is fluent in English and has basic knowledge of French, Italian and Swedish.

Selected matters

  • acting as counsel a German company in the steel industry in complex, related commercial arbitration and litigation disputes between several joint venture partners
  • participating in the defense of a German manufacturer of medical devices in an ICC arbitration seated in Brazil brought by a Brazilian competitor claiming EUR 30 million in damages for trade secret infringements
  • acting as counsel a respondent state in investment arbitration proceedings against a US-based claimant relying on a Bilateral Investment Treaty before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes in Washington D.C.
