Emily is an associate in the dispute resolution team, specialising in international arbitration and cross-border disputes.

Emily started her practice in 2019 in the dispute resolution team. Her primary practice is in complex civil and commercial disputes involving contentious debt-recovery claims, contractual and business disputes, land-related matters, insolvency and restructuring of distressed companies and fraud-related claims. Prior to joining Herbert Smith Freehills, she worked closely with senior counsels and regularly appears in Malaysian courts.

Background

Throughout Emily's legal practice, she was exposed to a wide range of claims assessment and complaints involving civil and commercial disputes ranging from administrative law, insolvency, defamation, negligence, contractual and business dispute to corporate fraud and land-related matters.

  • successfully represented a Chinese Buddhist Temple in resisting a summary possession proceeding seeking to evict their residents from a piece of land situated in the centre of Kuala Lumpur*
  • successfully represented a multinational oil and gas corporation in resisting an application for stay of enforcement of a multimillion-dollar arbitration award issued by the Asian International Arbitration Centre*
  • resisting an application to set aside a multimillion-dollar arbitration award issued by the Asian International Arbitration Centre on behalf of a multinational oil and gas corporation*
  • advising a Malaysian regulatory authority on the litigation strategy and legal recourse in respect of a potential litigation matter against various individuals for contravention of the Capitals Market and Services Act 2007*
  • representing a public listed property development company in numerous construction supply disputes and successfully engaged with counter parties in negotiations and settlement talks.*
