Jodi is an experienced commercial litigator whose practice spans class action and regulatory proceedings, construction, energy and mining disputes, internal investigations and fraud recovery.

Jodi has advised leading Australian and global companies across a range of sectors including energy, mining and resources, banking and government in complex commercial disputes. 

She has acted in proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia and Supreme Courts of Queensland and Victoria and in superior courts of Alberta, Canada, where she previously practised. She has also assisted clients in an advisory capacity to mitigate litigation risks, including through corporate governance and compliance reviews. 

She draws from her broad range of experience in Australia and Canada to deliver practical advice and solutions for clients, mitigate risk and manage complex disputes and investigations.

 

Background

Jodi graduated with honours from Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Laws and also holds a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice. She is admitted as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of Queensland.

Before joining Herbert Smith Freehills, she practiced as a barrister and solicitor in Canada.

  • Acting for the shareholders of Optal in an expedited claim in the English Commercial Court relating to sale of the company where the buyer sought to rely on the SARS-Cov-2 pandemic as a Material Adverse Effect
  • Acting for an Australian mining company in a CIETAC arbitration seated in Beijing in relation to the supply of mining equipment
  • Assisting clients in relation to ASIC investigations following the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial services industry
  • Assisting various clients with internal investigations stemming from whistleblower complaints and with corporate governance reviews and projects to uplift corporate policies and procedures
  • Acting for a principal in relation to a dispute with a design consultant on a significant rail and road infrastructure project
  • Acting for the owner of a gas pipeline in a claim relating to the shutdown of the pipeline
  • Acting for a contractor in relation to a claim by a subcontractor involving delay and disruption allegations, unpaid creditors and quality issues
  • Successful prosecution of a fraudulent conveyance/ preference action in which punitive damages were awarded
