Julia Harper
Julia is an associate in the firm’s Dispute Resolution practice.
Julia focuses her practice on corporate and complex commercial litigation in both state and federal court. She has handled a wide variety of cases at all stages of the dispute resolution process, including derivative claims and corporate disputes, contract disputes, products liability, securities class actions, civil RICO, fraud claims, and antitrust class actions. Julia also has experience assisting clients with government and internal investigations and domestic and international regulatory compliance.
Background
Julia received her J.D., with honors, from Boston University, where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Boston University Law Review and recipient of the Dr. John Ordronaux Prize for exemplary academic performance and leadership. She received her B.A., with honors, from the University of Chicago. Prior to joining Herbert Smith Freehills, Julia was an associate at a large global law firm.

- a global manufacturing company in a putative securities class action and a derivative litigation filed in two federal courts, respectively, concerning accounting for asbestos-related liabilities
- a pharmaceutical company in a multi-billion-dollar antitrust trial, resulting in a successful jury verdict denying all claims
- a translation services company in defence of trade secret litigation in federal court, resulting in a successful summary judgment motion, later affirmed by the appellate court
- a lightbulb manufacturer and its parent company in a successful arbitration, winning a multi-million-dollar award from an arbitration panel
- an international media company and certain of its officers and directors in a shareholder derivative lawsuit, resulting in a successful motion to dismiss all claims
