Julie Marotta
As a Work Health and Safety Law expert, Julie advises clients in all areas of safety regulation, incident management and enforcement.
Julie’s specialised WHS experience includes attending client sites following workplace incidents to provide immediate on-the-ground legal support to her clients. This assistance typically involves facilitating dealings with investigating inspectors, responding to document requests, advising on issues arising in relation to union right of entry and internal investigation processes and communications.
She is often entrusted to support the senior management team in the making of strategic decisions to ensure the business is well positioned to respond to any regulatory action taken without unnecessarily compromising other key priorities, including ensuring that works can be recommenced safely and any key learnings are appropriately captured and disseminated throughout the business.
Julie has considerable experience and success conducting WHS-related litigation, including preparing applications for administrative review of statutory notices, representing clients at coronial inquests and defending prosecutions brought by safety regulators.
Julie’s technical expertise means she is regularly called upon to provide advice to clients in relation to all areas of safety law including:
- the application of general and industry specific safety laws
- enforcement powers of investigating officials
- the respective responsibilities of multiple duty holders in complex contracting arrangements
- the interaction between various state and federal safety laws and extraterritoriality issues
- the interface between the management of health and safety duties and associated industrial and employment law issues - particularly as those issues arise for employers in the management of mental health in the workplace, drug and alcohol, bullying, and union right of entry
