Mandy is a TMT lawyer, specialising in technology, strategic sourcing and IP/data-driven transactions.

Mandy specialises in major outsourcings, other technology and telecommunications arrangements, strategic large-scale procurement transactions, transformation programs, innovation and digital projects, as well as IP and data-driven transactions, primarily in Australia and across Asia. She has worked for clients spanning a range of sectors. Her particular expertise focuses on the mining, technology, telecommunications and financial services sectors.

In addition to working with leading global and Australian corporations, Mandy also has a particular interest in early-stage tech companies. Mandy co-founded and ran the Herbert Smith Freehills Startup School program, a free, legal education program for early-stage startups in Melbourne, which was run in 2017-2019.

Background

Mandy holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (with Honours) from Monash University. In 2019, Mandy completed a 3-week intensive ‘Smart legal contract development and blockchain’ course at RMIT university, a course specifically designed for Herbert Smith Freehills.

Experience & expertise

Selected matters

  • advising clients on their global arrangements with key technology outsourcing partners. This has involved initial establishment of companies’ outsourced relationships and implementation of globalized IT functions, providing ongoing advice throughout the life of the contracts, and in some cases the subsequent strategic re-negotiation of these arrangements
  • acting for a number of large Australian and global corporate clients in relation to cloud migration and deployments, including in respect of strategic cloud partnerships with leading vendors such as Microsoft, AWS and SAP
  • advising clients on complex IP and data-related arrangements in the context of sustainability initiatives, partnerships and trials
  • advising global resources companies in relation to their arrangements with strategic vendors of mobile mining equipment, including the supply of equipment, services and related technology across their global sites. This has also involved assisting with complex arrangements relating to the introduction and deployment of autonomous solutions, as well as new electrification solutions
