Oliver is a senior associate in the Brisbane Disputes team. 

Oliver is a litigator with experience acting in a wide range of complex commercial disputes across multiple practice areas, with a particular focus on building and construction, major infrastructure, energy and resources (including wind, solar and mining projects), and insurance. 

Oliver has acted in proceedings in the Supreme Courts of Queensland and New South Wales, and in the Federal Court of Australia, across the full spectrum of the litigation process, from interlocutory hearings to the trial and appellate level. Oliver also has experience acting in security of payment adjudications and has assisted clients with navigating commissions of inquiry and other regulatory disputes, investigations, and processes.

Background

Oliver has a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Economics and International Relations) and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Queensland, where he was awarded a UQ Excellence Scholarship.

Oliver is admitted in the Supreme Court of Queensland and is on the Federal Register of Practitioners.

  • Acting for a multi-national pharmaceutical company in respect of insurance claims exceeding $20m following a warehouse fire
  • Acting for a range of principals, asset owners and financiers in connection with construction issues arising on wind farm and solar projects in Australia and South-East Asia (including statutory adjudications)
  • Acting for a major Australian shipping and logistics company in judicial review proceedings successfully challenging the imposition of marine infrastructure related fees
  • Acting for an Australian oil refining operator in proceedings in the Supreme Court of New South Wales concerning a joint venture for the operation and maintenance of oil processing equipment against a UK public company
  • Acting for an Australian judgment creditor in successfully opposing an application for recognition in Australia of insolvency practitioners appointed to a UK company pursuant to the Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency
