Ryan acts in international arbitration, emergency arbitration, dispute board, and expertise proceedings in relation to complex construction disputes arising under bespoke and FIDIC (International Federation of Consulting Engineers) contracts.

Ryan has represented and advised major international contractors, employers, and sovereign nations in disputes under major arbitral institutional rules, such as the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the Belgian Centre for Arbitration and Mediation (CEPANI), Dubai International Financial Centre-London Court of International Arbitration (DIFC-LCIA) rules, and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
