Sir Charles Roxburgh is a Non-Executive Director of Herbert Smith Freehills.
Sir Charles has a wealth of experience gained in both the private sector and government.
A former Second Permanent Secretary at His Majesty's Treasury, Sir Charles was responsible for issues relating to economic growth, productivity, infrastructure, energy, transport, financial services and financial stability. He also served as a member of the Treasury's executive management board. He represented the Treasury on the Bank of England's Financial Policy Committee and on the G20’s Global Financial Stability Board. In the area of energy, he led work on energy policy leading up to COP26 and oversaw HMT’s response to the energy crisis following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Prior to his role in Whitehall, Sir Charles spent 26 years at McKinsey & Company working across the UK, Europe and the US. He focused on advising clients within the financial services sector and his global outlook covered retail banking, investment banking, insurance and asset management. He also held leadership positions including Director of the McKinsey Global Institute and co-head of the global investment banking practice. He was elected to the Shareholders Council, McKinsey’s global board.
He is a non-executive director of Shell PLC, serves as the Non-executive Chair of Legal and General America and is a member of the International Advisory Board for the Economic Development Board of Bahrain.
