Uchi is Head of Data Analytics (Legal Technology) within our Digital Legal Delivery team.
Uchi is responsible for Claims Quant Analytics, which is the use of various methods to understand the potential outcome of different scenarios enabling informed decision making. By using mathematical models and statistical techniques, frameworks can be created to provide additional commercial insight, enabling clients to informed decisions.
Uchi is a chartered management accountant.
Background
Uchi is a qualified lawyer (admitted to the bar, Sri Lanka 2001) and has an Executive MBA from Olin Business School. Prior to joining Herbert Smith Freehills Uchi worked across a broad spectrum of industries and organisations from large multinational organisations dealing in energy and commodity trading to Fintech startups. His wealth of experience focusses on creating the frameworks to streamline data modelling and claims calculations to drive efficiency.

- advising on a large-scale remediation scheme. Working with HSF tax partners, ALT and HSF's software development team to design a highly customised solution to automate interest and tax calculations for a client
- advising on the creation of a bespoke decision analysis tool to help an aviation client map out various potential outcomes on a multibillion-dollar litigation claim. Information generated is currently being used to negotiate settlement agreements
- streamlining and automation of modelling. Enabling clients to visualise different outcomes across hundreds of different scenarios efficiently by running scripts to avoid need of manual entries
- financial analysis – working with HSF partners, the client’s legal and accounting teams to review calculations generated by client to identify issues and errors. The calculations are being used in court pleadings. Issues discovered will help client avoid significant financial losses
- quantification of outstanding claims arising on commercial disputes for a construction client to ensure that the claims submitted contain interest computations covering a period exceeding 10 years
- data analysis – creation of streamlined Power Bi supported dashboards for public sector client to have insightful information in status of remediation program
