Vassilena is a Partner in the Competition, Regulation and Trade group in London.

Vassilena specialises in EU and UK competition law. She regularly advises clients in relation to merger control and Foreign Direct Investment Filings (FDI) and antitrust investigations (anti-competitive agreements and abuses of dominance). She also advises on regulatory matters and compliance programmes. 

Vassilena has represented clients before the European Commission and the UK competition authorities, as well as working alongside local counsel to represent clients before authorities in other jurisdictions. She has experience across a broad range of sectors including energy, consumer, financial services, and TMT.

Vassilena was recently recognised as a “Rising Star” in W@Competition’s Five Star Professionals Survey for the UK & Ireland.

Background

Vassilena holds a First Class MA in Law from the University of Cambridge and a Masters degree (BCL) from the University of Oxford.  She was admitted to practise in England and Wales in 2012.

  • VTTI on its proposed acquisition of a majority interest in Adriatic LNG, Italy's largest LNG terminal.
  • The Coca-Cola Company in connection with a preliminary investigation by the European Commission into suspected abuses of dominance, which was closed without further action.
  • Altra Industrial Motion Corp. on its US$5 billion acquisition by Regal Rexnord. 
  • Uber on its acquisition of Autocab, a taxi booking and dispatch software provider.
  • The Walt Disney Company on its acquisition of certain Twenty-First Century Fox assets, including its film and television studios and cable and international TV business.*
  • Deutsche Bank in the context of multiple investigations into the setting of interbank offered benchmark rates.*
