William is the global head of the tax group with broad expertise in the real estate, energy and corporate tax spheres.

William is the global head of the tax group. He advises on high value structured real estate transactions, property developments and property finance arrangements across the whole range of real estate asset classes. He has a particular specialism in REIT taxation, advising a number of the UK’s largest REITS across a range of issues.

He also has extensive experience across a wide range of corporate tax and structuring matters, with a particular focus on oil and gas related transactions. William is a regular contributor to tax publications and journals. He also speaks frequently at external events on a range of subjects, including in relation to real estate joint ventures and structuring more generally.

  • Aberdeen on a £500 million housing joint venture with John Lewis to deliver c. 1,000 new homes in Bromley, West Ealing and Reading
  • Sinopec in relation to the $2.1 billion conditional sale transaction of a 49% stake in Repsol Sinopec Resources UK. The transaction forms the settlement between the parties in relation to their dispute over North Sea oil and gas assets
  • Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners on the acquisition and development of four biomass fuelled power plants in the UK, including through joint venture, with a total investment value of c£600 million
  • British Land on its sale of 50% of its share in the Canada Water Masterplan to AustralianSuper for £290 million, and subsequent 50:50 joint venture to accelerate the delivery of this 53 acre development as well as ongoing portfolio related advice
  • Brookfield Office Properties on the development, pre-letting, financing and refinancing of several large London office development schemes including London Wall Place and 100 Bishopsgate
  • Capital & Counties on its recommended £3.5 billion all-share merger with Shaftesbury plc
  • Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) on its restructuring and part-disposal of The Nova Estate in London, formerly known as Victoria Circle, in a 50:50 joint venture with Land Securities. The Project is one of the largest redevelopments in London and has a gross development value in excess of £900 million
  • Interpath Advisory (joint administrators of Toucan Energy Holdings 1 Limited) on the £700 million sale of Toucan Energy’s solar portfolio to Schroders Greencoat
