ILS’s 6th Annual Conference on Energy Arbitration and Dispute Resolution in the Middle East and Africa will take place on 27th and 28th June 2023. The event is organised in association with Herbert Smith Freehills and will take place in person at our London office, and will examine the economic, geopolitical, technical and legal considerations driving energy disputes across the region. This year, a packed programme of eminent speakers will consider dispute avoidance in the context of the energy transition, and the impact of shifting political dynamics in the region on investor state arbitration.

The keynote speaker on the first day of the conference this year is Lise Bosman, Exceutive Director of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) and Senior Legal Counsel at the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA).
On the second day of the conference, Herbert Smith Freehills Partner Craig Tevendale is the keynote speaker. Craig leads the international arbitration group in London at Herbert Smith Freehills as well as being Head of Energy in the UK. Partner Charlie Morgan will join the panel on Web3 and Energy Arbitration: the impact of the metaverse, blockchain and AI. Paris-based Partner Laurence Franc-Menget will be speaking on the panel: Algeria, Libya, Tunisia: Emerging Issues.
Bringing together policy makers, government representatives, arbitration institutions, legal practitioners and academics, the conference aims to once again generate lively debate, knowledge exchange and professional connections through a 2-day programme of lectures, panel discussions and networking receptions.
