Leading international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills has named two new partners in Asia as part of its annual global partnership promotions.
The new Asia partners are Helen Tang (Shanghai) and Joanna Caen (Hong Kong). Following their promotion on 1 May 2018, 30% of the firm's Asia partnership will be women.
"Helen and Joanna are excellent lawyers, focussed on clients, and valued members of our teams – I'm delighted to welcome them to the partnership," said Asia Managing Partner Justin D'Agostino. "Their promotion also demonstrates the firm's ongoing commitment to, and investment in, China and Asia."
"Helen has an active and successful practice advising clients on complex disputes involving China or Chinese parties. This area is only expected to grow, given the increase in investment and projects activity generated by the Belt and Road Initiative."
"With Asia soon expected to overtake North America as the largest wealth management market in the world, Joanna's pan-Asian private wealth practice is in strong demand, helping families prevent and resolve complex disputes."

OUR NEWEST ASIA PARTNERS
Helen Tang is a member of the firm's market-leading Asia dispute resolution practice. She specialises in international arbitration, compliance and investigations, working with both Chinese and international companies to resolve complex disputes.
Helen joined the firm in 2006 as one of our first 'PRC scholars'. A graduate of Peking University, she completed postgraduate legal qualifications at BPP Law School in the UK and the University of Hong Kong, before joining Herbert Smith Freehills in Hong Kong in 2006. She moved to the firm's Shanghai office in 2009.
Joanna Caen specialises in private client and wealth management work. A respected adviser to family businesses, banks and investment firms, Joanna's skills are in demand as Asia grapples with both booming business wealth and increased succession issues, as the founders of the region's largely family-run businesses approach retirement.
Joanna graduated from the University of Auckland with bachelor's and master's degrees in law. She began her career in New Zealand before joining Herbert Smith Freehills in Hong Kong in 2015.
