Following a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Herbert Smith Freehills hosted the seventh edition of the International Negotiation Competition (INC) at the National Law University, Delhi on 9 – 11 September 2022.
The competition provides an opportunity for law students from across the globe to practice and improve their negotiation skills through carefully structured simulations and to compete in a truly diverse and international environment.
The seventh edition saw 26 teams from seven countries, including Australia, India, Japan, Nigeria, Singapore, Sri Lanka and the UK, participating. After a tight tussle in the final round, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law was crowned as the overall winning team while National Law University Odisha emerged as the runner-up.
INC is part of Herbert Smith Freehills' wider commitment to the Indian legal market and is considered to be the biggest event of its kind in Asia.
The expert panel of judges for the competition comprised approximately 50 senior lawyers from corporates and law firms. A large team of Herbert Smith Freehills associates and trainees, led by Laura Ackroyd, Claire Bamford, Sean McDermott and Matthew Player, was involved in drafting the problems, while associates Vrinda Vinayak and Asmita Singhvi led on the overall organisation of the competition, along with trainees Ananya Bajpai and Tanesha Singh.
