Herbert Smith Freehills inaugurates European Trademark and Design Filing & Prosecution practice with the hire of Annamaria Algieri in Milan

Leading international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills launches the European Trademark and Design Filing & Prosecution practice with the hire of senior European Trademark & Design Attorney Annamaria Algieri in Milan.

The creation of the European Trademark and Design Filing & Prosecution Practice further enhances the firm's top-tier Intellectual Property offering in Europe and globally.

Leading the regional practice from Milan, Annamaria will work closely with offices in the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Belgium, as well as with the global IP team. She will also be collaborating with the firm's longstanding Trademark Filing & Prosecution Australian practice, led by Ike Papageorge, and its recently established Chinese IP practice, following the hire of Peng Lei in 2021.

Annamaria advises clients on trademark clearances and the analysis of trademark portfolios, as well as on pre-filing, filing, prosecution, opposition proceedings, nullity and revocation actions. She also assists clients with the filing and prosecution of design in the European Union. Annamaria provides strategic advice and manages worldwide trademark portfolios.

She is experienced in assisting national and international clients across a variety of industry sectors – from food & beverages, pharmaceutical, chemical, design to fashion, automotive and entertainment – in trademark, design and copyright matters. In addition, Annamaria's practice extends to the management of customs surveillance programmes aimed at preventing the import or re-export of suspicious goods.

Annamaria is a EUIPO representative in relation to trademarks, design and industrial property. She is also a member of the Trademark Administrators' Committee of INTA, a member of AIPPI and the PTMG (Pharmaceutical Trademark Group).
