As organisations continue to grapple with the legal and regulatory risks associated with emerging technologies, Herbert Smith Freehills is launching a programme designed to support in-house professionals develop their understanding of advanced technologies and the ramifications they pose for business.
Through its new Emerging Tech Academy, the firm will help clients gain insight into the opportunities and risks associated with technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, digital assets and the metaverse. The programme will provide a foundation level understanding that attendees can build on with further learning.
The first session will run from June 2023 and focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. This will be followed by interactive sessions exploring generative AI, the nuances and novel functionality of blockchain technology, how organisations can navigate the evolving area of cryptoassets, and what the metaverse could mean for the future of business.
"Realising the potential of emerging technologies requires appreciation of their opportunities and risks in the round, yet all too often their technological complexity stands in the way of success. We have launched this course to cut through the hype, demystify the tech, and give in-house professionals from all functions a common foundation from which to build." says Alexander Amato-Cravero, regional head of Herbert Smith Freehills' Emerging Technology Group.
Participants in each of the five sessions will see live demonstrations of how these emerging technologies work, before spending time developing their understanding of the risks they can pose to business and society.
The launch of the Emerging Tech Academy follows the success of Herbert Smith Freehills' recent digital law course, which provided students and recent law graduates with an introduction to emerging technologies.
Further information about the course can be found here.
