Herbert Smith Freehills has advised Sumitomo Corporation on its investment in Germany-based EEW Offshore Wind EU Holding (EEW Offshore Wind). Sumitomo Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President and Chief Executive Officer: Shingo Ueno) reached an agreement with EEW Group on 14 August 2024. Completion is subject to various legal and regulatory requirements.
EEW Offshore Wind is a worldwide leading manufacturer of “monopiles”, large diameter steel pipes used for the foundation of bottom-fixed offshore wind power generations. Sumitomo Corporation has been engaged in trading activities with EEW Group since the 2000s and has a strong business relationship with EEW Group. Through its investment in EEW Offshore Wind and by providing a stable supply of monopiles, Sumitomo Corporation will contribute to offshore wind power development in Europe.
