Leading international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills has advised Atlantic Tin on its acquisition of Société Anonyme d'Entreprises Minières (SAMINE) from Managem SA. SAMINE owns the past producing El Hammam mine, including its infrastructure and tenements, located adjacent to the Achmmach Tin Project in Morocco.
The acquisition of SAMINE gives Atlantic Tin ownership of an existing processing plant that can be renovated and upgraded to produce tin concentrate from Achmmach tin ores, which will reduce both the initial development capital and the environmental and social impact of the project. The transaction will also give Atlantic Tin ownership of SAMINE’s exploitation licence adjacent to the Achmmach licence, which is highly prospective for tin.
The Herbert Smith Freehills team was led from the Paris office by partners Paul Morton and Rebecca Major, supported by associates Marie Badr, Clémence Descoutures and Amélie Dugast. Kettani Law Firm advised Atlantic Tin on Moroccan law matters.
Partner Paul Morton comments: "Our market-leading Africa practice is proud to have acted for Atlantic Tin on this matter, which is a major milestone transaction in the development of the Achmmach project."
Partner Rebecca Major comments: "It was an honour to work with Atlantic Tin again on this important transaction for the company, which is at the forefront of an increasingly active mining sector in Morocco."
