In his Spring Statement yesterday, the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, made two announcements relating to share plans.
The Chancellor announced that the review of enterprise management incentives (EMI) options (originally announced in 2020) had concluded that the EMI scheme remains "effective and appropriately targeted".
It was also announced that the scope of the review will be expanded to consider if the other discretionary tax advantaged share plan, the company share option plan (CSOP), should be reformed to support companies as they grow beyond the scope of EMI.
It is currently unclear if the government will publish a report in connection with the EMI review and/or a new or expanded scope document in connection with the CSOP review. We will publish an update when we know more.
