Michael specialises in the delivery of complex major projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

Michael advises clients regarding the procurement and delivery of energy and infrastructure projects, with a focus on clean and renewable technologies and significant experience in rail, oil and gas and mining. Michael has advised clients on energy projects around the world, including North America, Latin America, South East Asia and Australia. He also advises on offtake and support arrangements, collaborative contracting (including target cost, cost reimbursement and incentivised pricing models), development agreements and general construction.

Clients value Michael for his calm approach and dedication to achieving outcomes that meet the commercial requirements of his clients. 

Michael was based in the Herbert Smith Freehills New York office as part of the LatAm team for three years from 2018 to 2021.

Background

Michael holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours), majoring in Finance, from Deakin University.

  • bp on the operation arrangements for the Asia Renewable Energy Hub (a proposed 26GW renewable green-hydrogen project in Western Australia)
  • FGEN Corporation on the infrastructure lease, operation and joint asset arrangements for an LNG import terminal in Batangas, the Philippines
  • Mantos Copper in relation to the procurement of major infrastructure and EPC arrangements for the Mantoverde Development Project (Proximo Latin America Mining Deal of the Year) in Atacama, Chile.
