The Children and Families Bill published earlier this year includes provisions to implement the government's plans for a new system of shared parental leave (SPL) and pay, first announced in 2011. The Bill contains little detail, which is to be left to regulations yet to be published. But a recently published consultation paper now provides some insight as to how the new rights will operate when introduced in 2015. Employers wishing to plan ahead or future-proof current policies should review this detail and may wish to respond to the consultation (deadline 17 May 2013).
Our briefing outlines the new system, how it will be administered and potential problems.
Please note: Jemima Coleman is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association working party responding to this consultation so please feel free to send us any comments on the proposals to feed into the consultation response.
