The Government is supporting a private member's bill which, subject to Parliamentary approval, will require the Secretary of State to introduce regulations creating a legal requirement for all employers to grant a period of a minimum of 2 weeks of Parental Bereavement Leave, with pay (if eligible) at the statutory flat rate. The Government is consulting until 8 June on the proposed detail of those regulations, focussing in particular on the definition of a bereaved parent, how and when to take the leave, and notice and evidence requirements. The consultation paper is available here.
