As we hit mid year, the employment landscape across Asia has started to move away from only focussing on Covid-19 related emergency measures. Our Asia Employment, Pensions and Incentives update this month looks at:

  • the recent decision in Malaysia in Ahmad Zahriv AIMS Cyberjaya Sdn BHd in relation to fixed term employment contracts;
  • the restrictions and requirements outlined in the Civil Code on collecting personal data in the PRC;
  • a number of updates in Hong Kong on discrimination laws, maternity leave, ORSO schemed and wage subsidies;
  • our Compliance Check this month, which looks at employers' obligations in preventing pawahara (power harassment) in Japan; and
  • our Comparative Article this month, which considers wage payments and unlawful deduction in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong and the PRC.

This month, in conjunction with the Association of Corporate Counsel of Singapore, we hosted a webinar on cost saving measures across the region. If you missed it, you can listen to the recording here.

Finally, Herbert Smith Freehills is conducting a global survey on return to work measures, and how various lockdowns have impacted the way businesses operate. Please do take some time to contribute to the survey which is available here.

As always, do reach out if we can assist with your employment law issues across the region.
