Today, 1st July, the Milan seat of the central division of the UPC had its official inauguration ceremony, having started accepting case filings on 27 June.
The Milan seat will deal principally with patents involving "human necessities" IPC class A (without associated SPCs) covering pharmaceuticals (medical and veterinary), agriculture, foodstuffs, tobacco, consumer goods, sports and games, inter alia (see here).
Our pan-European patents team are already involved in a number of UPC cases and look forward to bringing cases to this new forum.
For further information, see our report on the newly appointed Milan central division judges on our dedicated UPC and Unitary Patent Hub and our briefing on the first year of the UPC.
