The embedding of environmental net gain is a headline of the UK Government’s 25 Year Plan to Improve the Environment. In this series of three episodes, we discuss how the UK Government proposes to implement the principle of biodiversity net gain for development.
Episode 1: Biodiversity gain as a condition of planning permission
In this first episode, Martyn Jarvis (Senior associate) and Fiona Sawyer (Professional support lawyer) of the London Planning Team discuss what the proposals for biodiversity gain in planning require. This episode can be found on SoundCloud here.
In future episodes we will discuss the ways in which a development may achieve the biodiversity gain objective and how the net-gain requirement ties in with an important green infrastructure policy in the emerging new London Plan, namely “urban greening”.
