Helen specialises in China-related dispute resolution with a focus on international arbitration.

Helen Tang advises Chinese state-owned and private enterprises, as well as multinational corporations on various cross-border contentious matters, with a focus on international arbitration.

Helen has represented clients in arbitration seated in Beijing, Hong Kong, London, New York, Shanghai and Singapore under CIETAC, HKIAC, ICC, LCIA, SIAC and UNCITRAL rules. She is on the panel of arbitrators of Shanghai International Arbitration Center (SHIAC) and has sat as arbitrator in a number of SHIAC and HKIAC arbitration cases. She serves as the vice chair on the ICC commission for Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution since 2022, and is currently a member of the HKIAC procedural committee. 

Helen is included in the Legal 500 Private Practice Powerlist for arbitration in China, which was released for the first time in November 2023. She is named a "Leading Individual" for Arbitration in China in Legal 500 (2023, 2024), and recognised in the latest edition of Who's Who Legal (WWL) 2022 as a "National Leader" in Arbitration in China. She is also included in the Global Arbitration Review's "45 under 45" list released in December 2024, which named only 45 arbitration practitioners around the world aged under 45 as the leading younger practitioners in international arbitration.

Background

Helen obtained her LLB degree from Peking University in Beijing, and further completed GDL (Graduate Diplomat in Law) in BPP Law School in the UK and PCLL (Postgraduate Certificate of Law) in the University of Hong Kong. She was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 2008. Helen is fluent in English and is a native speaker of Mandarin and Cantonese. She also speaks Shanghainese and Hakka.
