Welcome to the 13th edition of Cartel Intel – just in time for some (light) holiday reading!
This bulletin provides an update on key developments in the cartel sphere across Europe, from the French Competition Authority issuing fines in the pre-cast concrete and processed meat sectors to the Italian Competition Authority commencing investigations in the snack food and copper cable manufacturing sectors, to notable decisions in Germany on requirements for search warrants in dawn raids, and in Spain on the use of compliance programmes as means to reduce imposed sanctions. We conclude our final edition of 2024 with a summary of the CJEU's ruling in BZ v FIFA – Diarra, which is expected to have a significant impact on the regulatory framework for the sports community, and the UK Court of Appeal's critical judgement of the Competition Appeal Tribunal's procedure in a case concerning an illicit market-sharing agreement between pharmaceutical companies, in relation to the supply of hydrocortisone tablets.
We will continue to monitor and report on significant cartel enforcement developments in the next edition of Cartel Intel. In the meantime, don't forget to save the date for our annual Cartels Workshop, in partnership with Concurrences, on 23 January 2025 at the HSF Brussels office.
